If you're thinking about adding a new pug in you household, there are more things to consider besides making the time to care and walk a pug. All breeds have varying temperaments. While some DOGS may be downright docile or aggressive, other canines vacillate between amicable and testy:
Pekingese dogs are quite small. This worked out well for their ancient masters, who were ancient Chinese royalty. These royal masters used to carry the peke dogs along in the sleeves of their royal robes.
*Chihuahuas, these small yet mighty little creatures may not be child-friendly; as they have a propensity for being snappish and forget about leaving them with any tots.
Franklin D. Roosevelt once spent $15,000 to have a destroyer return to the Aleutian Islands and retrieve his Scottish terrier, Fala, who had been accidentally left behind. Fala is now part of the Roosevelt Memorial in Washington, D.C.
* Chow Chows do better one-on-one. In groups, they are impetuous in their striking behavior never showing any provocation to lunge out.
The basenji, an African wolf dog, is the only breed of dog that cannot bark. Instead of barking, it makes an odd yodel-like noise. Due to this fact, the basenji is also sometimes known as an African barkless dog.
* Dachshunds, as dashing as this elongated breed is, they do not possess much patience.
The Giant Schnauzer is known in german as "Riesenschnauzer", meaning "the giant". It should closely resemble the other Schnauzers, miniature and standard. However, they are really completely unique and unrelated breeds. They have just developed in such a way, over time, that they look similar to each other.
* Giant Schnauzers can be quite a domineering breed; so much so that they often challenge not only their owners but other people and Pugs too.
The diminutive tibetan spaniel, with his feather-like tail, may look a bit like other spaniels, but the breed is actually not a spaniel at all, but more closely related to some combination of the shih tzu, pug, pekingese and Japanese chin.
* Llasa Apso's should be kept away from excitable, prank playing children. This breed will not stand for any shenanigans from the kids.
Many toy fox terriers used to be used commonly in circus shows by clowns. They are said to make great companions for owners with a good sense of humor. They seem to anticipate their master's every thought and mood.
* Miniature Pinschers can be quite Napoleonic in that they suffer from the big Pug-little body complex. In order to accommodate for their height they show many aggressive tendencies.
The Bloodhound doesn't need to smell blood to find someone who is lost. It is said that his name instead means blooded hound, or aristocratic. They actually track people because people leave a trail of skin cells with their own unique odor wherever they go.
* Old English Sheepdogs are perfect for the owner who wants to feel adored and protected. If this DOG even thinks someone is in too close proximity of their masters, they will deliver some aggression to drive their point.
The Skye Terrier's origins are connected with a centuries old shipwreck. Early in the 1600's a Spanish ship wrecked on the Island of Skye in the Scottish Hebrides. Some of the survivors of the shipwreck were Maltese dogs that mated with the local terriers, creating a new and unique breed.
* Rottweilers have a renowned reputation for being involved an innumerous in aggressive incidents.
About eight thousand years ago, ancient Egyptians began to raise a breed called Saluki, as hunting dogs. Saluki is an arabic word. In english it translates as "noble one". These dogs are probably the oldest known breed.
* The Pekinese has its share of mood swings.
Chow chows were originally bred as food, just like cows. However, in some cases, they were also used as hunters and helpers. They were also used to keep people warm under cold conditions by cuddling up to people with their soft, warm fur.
*Toy Poodles can be quite squeamish. As a result, they quite often misconstrue playfulness as a threat, meaning they strike out via biting.
