A round-up of the most frequently asked questions on pugs and grooming.



The first breeding Weimaraners were imported to the US in 1938 by Howard Knight, a dog fancier from Rhode Island. In 1942, The Weimaraner Club of America was formed and the breed standard was created.


I am taking my eight month old pug to the groomer for the first time. Because, Oscar is my first pug, I'm unsure about the grooming process. Should I bath my pug prior to the appointment? Unless you plan to give your pug's coat a comprehensive comb through, the answer is no. When pugs are not completely brushed out after a bath, the undercoat can become quite matted. The end-result requires the groomer to completely clip your pug's hair.



The Bloodhound doesn't need to smell blood to find someone who is lost. It is said that his name instead means blooded hound, or aristocratic. They actually track people because people leave a trail of skin cells with their own unique odor wherever they go.


Should I pay the groomer more because my pug misbehaves? On the contrary, pugs are more prone to behave better in the presence of a groomer. Since, groomers apply a docile yet firm hand, most pugs will be conditioned to appreciate a regular visit to the groomer.



Beagles are known to be extremely social and cheerful dogs. They are expected to be so friendly that, even in dog shows, the judges expect them to be happy. They have points removed in the judging if they look to be unhappy.


My pug has behavioral issues, is there anything I can do to prevent an unpleasant situation from transpiring? Although, canines with temperment problems rare, the groomer may request that the pug's owner obtain a mild tranquilizer from his or her veterinarian before the grooming appointment. The medication will enable the groomer to do a thorough job while preventing the pug from injuring itself.



There is a grammar debate about the Borzoi (Russian Wolfhound). The plural, "Borzois", may be found in dictionaries. However, the Borzoi Club of America asserts that "Borzoi" is the preferred form for both singular and plural.


My pug's groomer administers tranquilizer to keep pets calm. Is it okay for my pug to take the medicine? Absolutely not, American Boarding Kennels Association (ABKA)of groomers never administer tranquilizers. Since each pug is different, only a veterinarian should prescribe medicine. If your pug was prescribed the medicine in the past and your groomer just happens to have extra pills, make sure the drug is the same dose that your veterinarian originally prescribed.



A st. bernard became a mother in 1975. While that wasn't unusual by itself, the unusual thing was that she had twenty-three puppies! She now shares this record with two other dogs, one of which originally set it in 1944.


My pug is only 7 months old. Should I wait another 10 months before getting him groomed? Conversely, puppies generally acclimate to more rapidly that older pugs. When younger pugs experience grooming on a regular basis they are more apt to enjoy the experience opposed to the adult pug that has little exposure to the grooming process.



Schipperke is Flemmish for "little captain" and the name is appropriate because most schipperkes seem to act almost human. they are happy, intelligent and usually enjoy being the center of the universe around them.
