Pug Puppy Vaccinations

To protect puppies from acquiring a host of diseases (distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza, leptospirosis, and parvovirus) puppies should be vaccinated several times during its first several months. The vaccination is referred to as the 5-in-1. Vaccines are spaced out from two, three and four months of age, and then once a year. A puppy should be given four shots up until it is four months. Depending on the breed, shots can be administered until five months of age. Until the age of five months, American Staffordshire terriers/pit bulls, Doberman pinschers- and Rottweilers should be vaccinated.

Many Scottish terriers have an odd medical condition. It is called Scotties Cramp. It is a mild neurological disorder. Scotties under stress or exercising may move erratically, when suffering from this neurological disorder, but seem fine when resting.

Older non-vaccinated pugs, over the age of four or five months, require a series of two vaccinations administered two to three weeks apart. Then they should follow up the vaccinations with an annual one. In various parts of the country, legislation mandates that pugs should be given a rabies vaccination. In the Big Apple, New York City, the local law requires that any pet over the age of three months be vaccinated for rabies.

The tibetan terrier is not a true terrier and is probably more closely related to the lhasa apso. However, the tibetan terrier is indeed from Tibet, where monks once treasured this intelligent breed of dogs as guardians of their temples.

Dog Vaccination tip: Ask your veterinarian about any local vaccination requirements. Any time a canine becomes ill due to improper vaccination, it should be re-administered as soon as the pug is feeling better. Subsequent to the vaccination, do not allow a pug to sit on the floor of an animal hospital -- until four to five days following the final vaccination.

Basset hounds are fabulous at hunting and they make wonderful companion dogs. However, even with those great qualities, basset hounds are horrible swimmers! Their legs are simply too small to keep their heavy, long bodies afloat properly.

To prevent illness, do not allow any unvaccinated puppy or pug to roam free outside. Because canines are exposed prevalently to worms and other potential infestations, even the healthiest puppy is vulnerable to hookworms, roundworms. An accurate diagnosis is the key to treating any pug with worms because it assure that the medication is effective to cure your pet.

Dandie Dinmont is a fictional character in Sir Walter Scott's "Guy Mannering", published in 1814. The main character had mustard and pepper terriers. Although Dandie Dinmont dogs were in existence for many years previously, it is this character that gave the breed their name.

Give your pug plenty of exercise and never overfeed it.

In the late 1800's, rough collies were known as Scottish Sheepdogs. The name was eventually changed to rough collie. This is probably due to the fact that both rough and bearded collies were developed in Scotland to help herd sheep.
