How To Stop My Pug from Fighting with Other DOGS

If you have a pug with some behavior or territorial issues, you may have your work cut out for you when it comes to teaching your pug to stop fighting with other DOGS. Keep in mind before you go any further, that in many cases, aggressive behavior in a pug is a result of fear.

Dachshunds may be small and cute, but they are also the smallest hunting breed. They were bred to be low to the ground, which allows them to enter and maneuver through tunnels and chase prey easily.

Work with your pug, first on obedience basics, using commands such as sit, stay, heel, and 'no'. Don't punish your pug, though reinforce and reward good behavior. When that step has been accomplished, take your pug out for walks along quiet neighborhood streets where interaction with other people or DOGS isn't likely. Get your pug used to being around others, without them being too close.

One of the weirdest dog births on record involves a Siberian Husky. The mother's name was Pixie and she gave birth to 7 puppies, which isn't unusual. The unusual part was that one of the puppies was born bright green!

Carry DOG treats in your pocket to immediately reward your pug for good behavior and responding to your commands. When approaching other DOGS or people, place yourself between your pug and others. Grasp the leash tightly and pull the DOG leash sideways as the DOG approaches, keeping your pug at a distance. Pulling his or her leash sideways will keep your pug unbalanced, while allowing you greater control.

The largest breed of dog that is recognized by the American Kennel Club is the Irish Wolfhound, which stands thirty to 30 to 35 inches at the top of the shoulders and weighs 105 to 125 pounds.

Carry something that will distract your pug when he or she sees another DOG approaching, but don't yell or scold your pug to behave before the other people even near you. Maintain an even pace, always talking to your pug in low, soothing tones, and urge him to respond to you instead of approaching DOGS or people. Reward him or her immediately with a treat when he makes eye contact with you.

The first living being to travel in space was a small mixed breed dog named Laika, who gave her life orbiting the earth in the Russian Sputnik in 1957. John F. Kennedy's terrier, Charlie, sired 4 puppies with Laika's daughter, Pushinka.

Other people dealing with difficult situations like pug aggression often introduce their pug to a passive pooch in a new location. This will alleviate any need for territoriality with your pug, and the non-aggressive temperament of the other pug may serve to teach your pug that others pugs don't always imply a threat. Of course, have the other pug owner holding tightly to their pug and remain calm and unthreatening as well.

Many people think that the kerry blue terrier is the national dog of Ireland. Actually, the Irish government never has given this designation to any breed. Michael Collins, one of Irelands most famous patriots, introduced legislation to elevate the Kerry Blue, or the Irish Blue Terrier as they were then called, to the national dog of Ireland. After his murder, the interest in the initiative was lost.

Be aware of the first signs or signals of aggression in your pug toward others. Staring at an approaching DOG or person, hackles raised, and stiff legs and tail should alert you that your pug is in an aggressive mode. Calmly give the approaching DOGS or people plenty of room while speaking to your pug in upbeat and soothing tones, and then reward your pug after the brief meeting has passed.

The role of Toto, the male dog in the Wizard of Oz was actually played by a female Cairn Terrier named Terry. Cairn terriers are known for their brightness and cuteness. That, combined with their small size, made the breed perfect for the role.

The key to changing any behavior in a pug is patience. New lessons won't be learned overnight, and may take days, or even weeks, to see signs of progress. Reassure your pug that he or she is loved and make sure you lavish them with plenty of attention after each outing. However, if your pug continues to express aggressive behavior after all attempts by you to correct such behavior have failed, consider taking your pug to an obedience class that specializes in aggressive pug behavior.

There are two famous parson (jack) russell terriers on TV. Eddie is famous for his crazy antics on the hit show, Frazier. Wishbone was the main character who had his own children's show on PBS!

The Lundehund is a breed which has lived solely on two islands in the north of Norway. The Lundehund has sever extra toes and paw cushions! That makes it excellent as a climbing dog, bred for rugged terrain. It also has the unusual ability to close its ears.
