Winter Pug Care Tips

A review on the do's and don'ts on caring for a pug over the winter month. Did you know most pugs are lost during winter months than any other time of the year? To ensure the safety of your pug, during the harsh winter months, try these pug care recommendations:

Chinese Crested dogs are often considered to be so ugly that they are cute. They often win ugly dog contests. They are odd looking, mostly hairless dogs. They are also the only breed of dog that is capable of getting acne.

Always make sure your pug's ID tag is properly affixed before heading out into the great outdoors.

The Lundehund is a breed which has lived solely on two islands in the north of Norway. The Lundehund has sever extra toes and paw cushions! That makes it excellent as a climbing dog, bred for rugged terrain. It also has the unusual ability to close its ears.

Following a heavy snow or during extreme conditions that may induce ice, never allow your pug to roam freely without a leash. It's easy for a canine to fall through ice or stumble across other potentially dangerous incidents.

The German Shepherd Dog is also known as the Alsatian, or Deutsche Schaferhund. Rin Tin Tin, probably the most famous American German Shepherd, was actually born in France in September of 1918 and then brought to America later.

In the winter, DOGS with long hair do not require shaving. Their coat can provide the warmth they need to stay comfortably. Remember to completely dry your canine after giving it a bath during the winter months.

Male Irish wolfhounds are usually at least 32 to 34 inches tall and females are usually around 30 inches tall. This makes the Irish wolfhound the tallest breed. Although a few other dogs, such as the great dane, come close to equalling that height.

Never leave an unattended pug in a vehicle during a wintry, blustery day. Leaving a pug or cat alone in the car is tantamount to leaving a canine in a refrigerator or freezer, increasing the possibility of your pet freezing to death.

The greater swiss mountain dog, or swissy, is believed to be a direct descendant of the ancient tibetan mastiff. A versatile dog, the swissy traditionally drove cattle, guarded property, protected human companions and fought in wars.

Canines with short-hair may require a sweater or coat to keep them warm. Look for puggie ware that covers the neck to as least the base of the belly or tail. (in example turtleneck or a high collar)

Pharaoh Hounds have an unusual feature. They are the only breed of dogs that "blushes". They do this when they are excited or happy. When they "blush" their ears, nose and eyes will become pink.

People are always taking their Yorkshire terriers to the groomer. Why? Well, Yorkshire terriers can grow hair up to 2 feet in length! Considering that they are nowhere near two feet tall, this makes regular grooming a must!

Prior to bringing your pug in from icy, snowy or wet and cold weather, be sure to thoroughly wipe off its paws, legs and stomach. Since many canines groom themselves by licking their stomach, legs or paws be sure to wipe them thoroughly. Salt and antifreeze may be potentially fatal when ingested. Not to mention, paw pads may bleed from both snow and encrusted ice.

Alaskan Malamutes are known for being friendly and loyal. In fact, Chewbacca, the hairy Wookiee in the Star Wars movies and the name of the character of indiana Jones were both inspired by George Lucas' loyal dog Indiana, an Alaskan Malamute.
